CALIFORNIA AT KANSAS CITY Angels.......... 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - 1 2 1 Royals.......... 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 - 2 7 0 Win:Bunker(1-3) Loss:Wilhelm(1-4) Wally Bunker didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Kansas City Royals beat the California Angels by a score of 2 to 1. Bunker(1-3) escaped virtually unscathed against the California hitters. He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Bunker chalked up 10 strikeouts dropping his ERA from 5.14 to 4.14. The right-handed Bunker lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jay Johnstone singled with one out in the 6th inning. California threatened in the 9th but Kansas City was able to put down the rally. The loss was charged to Hoyt Wilhelm(1-4) in relief. 'Bunker pitched a gem of a game', Lefty Phillips recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
