McDowell(8-6) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the California offense. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. McDowell racked up 10 strikeouts. The left-handed McDowell lost his chance for a no-hitter when Sandy Alomar singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Cleveland banged out 8 hits on the night. Tom Murphy(1-7) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 walks. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Lefty Phillips said. McDowell pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
