Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston won it in the 12th inning. Doug Rader drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Curt Blefary stepped in and he ripped a base-hit. Blefary took second on the throw. Ron Willis then reached on an error giving Houston the win as 22,407 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Houston had 13 hits overall, while Chicago (NL) had 10. The win went to Willis(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Phil Regan(1-4) took the loss in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
