The score was knotted at zero after nine innings. Houston came out on top in the 10th inning. Jesus Alou ripped a single. Jim Wynn was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Doug Rader dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Denis Menke came up and he reached on an error. Curt Blefary came up to bat and ripped a base-hit giving Houston the victory and sending the 24,961 home-town fans home happy. Houston finished with 7 hits in the victory. Wilson(9-20) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. The right-handed Wilson had his no-hit bid broken up by Steve Carlton who doubled with two outs in the 8th inning. Carlton(19-12) was charged with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 9 and 2/3 innings and not allowing an earned run. 'He came out with good stuff,' Harry Walker said about Wilson. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch on.'
