Kaline had a big day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit in the 1st inning, slapped a base-hit in the 3rd inning, electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 4th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 6th inning. Detroit had a total of 11 hits for the game. For McLain(21-12) it was his 7th shutout this year. The losing pitcher was Dave McNally(18-9). He was hit hard and gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Earl Weaver said. McLain pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
